Genesis

POSTED 27 May 2009 1:31 AM by Robert Eisenbraun

I am no Adam, and Anna is no Eve, but we are upon the genesis of a number of things.

Our second year of marriage is coming up fast and though you wouldn’t know it, I am just starting a screenplay. As-of-yet untitled. It’s about a young man. ‘Nuff said.

Anna and I do not have jobs. We are in flux. I am hoping to make an independent documentary. The subject, I won’t say. I might also enjoy working for two or three months at the Chicago International Film Festival. After that I might have a better chance at getting a regular job.

This is my blog, but I will say a word about Anna. She’s on-track for Chicago theatre small-time premiere. Chicago theatre is huge, personal, and small all over. Internships and first-hand experience mean building relationships to connect with jobs that will take advantage of her skill set. Hrm?

I am well into “Film Production Theory,” a book by Jean-Pierre Geuens. You might think from the title that it is dry and boring, and its back jacket even describes itself as good classroom material, but I think I would be in Heaven if I could keep reading and never finish it. I won’t do it. I am about 1/4 of the way through the book, and most of the material covered has been history, though one chapter, aptly titled “Film School,” dissuaded me from going to graduate school for an M.A. in cinematography; talked about the methods of schooling, Hollywood involvement vs. experimentation, and perpetuating The System. Talk about The System and you’re guaranteed to convince a Communication Arts major of its evilness, right? It was well-said, though. I’m learning about Derrida’s perspective and influence on film, of all things, as well as the Quattrocento era of art, not to mention such jems as the transition from still cameras to dollys and tracks, or Jean-Luc Godard’s introduction of shaky camera and actors without makeup.

Quattrocento. What a cool word.

Sorry I don’t have any pictures in this post. I’ll try to become more Web 2.0, too.
